Three Sisters (Round 1)

A tale of two halfs this weekend. Struggled to find pace all day on the Saturday in the wet conditions with no acceleration or grip. Changed engines and carbs but no joy. Scott suggested we change a few things ready for Sunday which my dad did.

On the Sunday, started 3 lap practice and the kart was completely different. Handling was a lot better and the grip was good. engine was pulling well.

Heat 1- Started 16th, finished in 10th which was a good start to the day.

Heat 2 - I started 2nd with some quick Stars drivers close behind. I managed to get a good start and was able to put in consistent lap times keeping close to 1st and 2nd till the end of the race. Good result and fastest lap.

Heat 3 - Starting near the back in 29th place. I got a crackin start gaining a few places and was quicker through the corners on my wright kart. I crossed the line in 9th place.

Final - Grid position of 5th with Stars drivers all around me. I got quite a good start but got overtaken into the first corner. Managed to keep on the pace with the guys around me. Running in 7th for most of the race I was right on the exhaust of the guy in front and I was able to overtake him on the last lap to beat him over the line. Great results finishing 6th to get my first trophy of the season and fastest lap of the day. WELL HAPPY!

Hooton Park - 11th October 2009

Saturday Practice - Following some good test days with Scott (Team Manager), I was on the pace from the off, putting in some good lap times. Feeling positive for race day!

Sunday Race Day -
Heat 1: With most of the grid including me choosing wet tyres when it became clear that slicks were the way forward, nevertheless started 10th and finished 8th which was a good result considering the tyre choice.
Heat 2: Again the weather played it's part as we lined up on the grid. Half the grid scrambled around changing onto wets last minute but I decided to stay on slicks. It turned out to be a great decision making up 4 places to finish 3rd.

Final: Grid start 7th but more importantly, on the inside for the first corner. I got a good start and made up a place into the first corner with some close racing. I kept in clean with some good overtaking moves to finish 4th at the end. My best ever finish in a final. This has only been my 3rd race weekend since joining SAS.....my confidence is growing all the time.
