FKS Rounds 1, 3/4th April,

The SAS team drivers turned up really looking forwards to the first FKS race of 2010 and with it being one of there home tracks hoped to get some steady results. Jake Walker was really fast on Friday in practice setting the pace with Ross Martin, Kyle Hornby and Josh Smith not that far behind. Jack Connolly used his Wright Garda 7 for the first time and soon got to grips with the new kart. Timed qualifying went ok with Jake 5th fastest Ross 11th and Kyle 27th. Ross had a storming drive in one of the heats to finish 4th. The A final saw Ross and Jake making steady progress.

Jake Walker 14th

Ross Martin 19th

B Final Kyle Hornby DNF, Josh Smith 16th and Jack Connolly 17th

FKS Rounds 2, 3/4th April,

Qualifying, Jake was 7th and Ross 14th.

Kyle Hornby had better heats than on Saturday and found himself on the front row of the B final but with a lot of good drivers he had his work cut out if he was to make it into the A final. Kyle drove the race of his life, by not making any mistakes to finish 4th and move into the A final. Jake was more on the pace in the heats finishing 4th and 3rd. Ross had good heat and again made the A final.

Jake Walker 12th

Ross Martin 22nd

Kyle Hornby 26th

B Final Josh Smith 14th and Jack Connolly 18th.

Team manager Scott was happy with the results. Team driver of the day went to Ross closely followed by Jack Connolly

SAS Motorsport driver Ross Martins wins by the smallest gap at the last worm up race before FKS which starts next weekend. Ross crossed the finish line 0.003 seconds ahead of Super 1 driver Lando Norris. (about the gap of a sticker kit) Ross had steady heats qualifying P5 for the final. He soon passed and settled into 2nd place and waited for his tyres coming good, knowing the final was a long race Ross kept his cool and making his move on lap 11 of the 15 lap race. He stayed out front until the last lap when Lando retook the lead only for Ross to get a perfect last corner exit and pass to win over the finish. With both drivers thinking they had won the team ran over to the lap scoring office and found out Ross had won by the smallest of margins.

The rest of the team put in very good lap times but again found themselves in a battle amongst themselves. SAS manger Scott Walker says as soon as they learn to work together they will have better results. At one point they did and you could see them catching the leading group.

Novice Jack Brookes in only his 3 race won the best novice and again showed great speed and consistence lap times.

24/01/2010 Wigan

SAS driver Jake Anderson started the 2010 season with a storming drive setting fastest lap of the day. Kyle Hornby also had a great day setting fastest lap in Heat 2. Full story to follow soon.

Jake Anderson collects his 6th place and fastest lap trophy's.

24th December SAS would like to wish all there drivers and familys a very happy Christmas and new year, 2010 is looking like a cracking year.

12/13 December Rowrah,

With Jake Walker winning all 3 heats it looked like the final was going to be his, but with the cold weather came the danger of the carb icing, and we think that's what happened, with Jake leading on lap 2 the kart slowed by a second that made Jake slip down to 3rd place, SAS driver Josh Smith then had a big off turning into turn 1 bringing out the red flag, so the results went back a lap meaning Jake finished 2nd. Ross Martin finished 3rd on his Wright Garda 7 and showed the speed to win. Josh was given 8th, Kyle 9th Dan 12th with Jake Anderson 13th. We are now all looking forwards to the 2010 season.

5/6 Larkhall Scotland,

SAS traveled 200 miles north to Larkhall to prepare for the FKS qualifier early next year. The drivers had to learn the track and setting, The 2 Wright drivers, Kyle Hornby and Jake Anderson quickly found good pace and expectations were high for the race. SAS drivers are new and i think they found themselves with a chance to do really well. But they all drove to hard apart from steady (Eddie) Dan Baybutt who managed to bring his kart home in 3rd for his first podium. Well done Dan. Jake Anderson suffered with carb problems in the final but showed very good pace.

28/29 Nov Wigan, 3 sisters club track,

Wet,wet, wet, not the song, that summed up Wigan all weekend. Kyle Hornby and Jake Anderson used there new Wright Garda7 kart for the first time and both went very well. Josh Smith when avoiding the mud made fast progress, Dan Baybutt missed Saturday practice and struggled to get a set up. Jack Connolly ran mid pack all weekend. Jake qualified best with Kyle close behind. After a safe start Jake was up to 7th when a spinning kart wiped him from the race. Kyle finished top team member in 9th. See results page.

21/22 Nov Whilton,

Jake traveled to Whilton to practice for next years FKS and also so he and team could get to grips with the new Wright Kart. Saturdays practice went very well and Jake was on the pace straight out the box.....Heat 1 and with the set up not quite right was a little of the pace..... Heat 2 Jake was 4/10ths faster than everyone..... Heat 3 came home 3rd with a very careful drive. Giving him P3 for the final. Wow Jake just drove away into the distance winning by 7seconds. Jake said the setup was spot on. WE had just the WRIGHT package. He would like to thank John at FORCE, Wright karts, Iztech kart seats and his mentor Alex Hawkridge.

Rowrah 8th November,

The team traveled north to Rowrah, running all day in heavy rain we new the set ups would change for Sunday as dry weather was on the cards. But the track remained wet until the final. Jake Walker followed pole man until the last lap where he dived down the inside in a great move that did not allow any reply. Full race report to follow soon.

GYG 1st November,

Jake Walker used the new Wright Kart for the first time and was very happy to give his new kart its first win, Full race report will follow soon.

Jack Sweeney Aged 4years 1 month. Our youngest driver yet.

Rowrah 11th October,

With the senior team drivers resting it was up to the junior team drivers to shine, and shine they did. Kyle Hornby and Josh Smith traded fastest lap time during Saturday practice. Sunday morning the team was joined by Dan Baybutt, but it all started going wrong as Josh and Kyle spun off, when 1st and 2nd. It then got better as both drivers then recorded a career best 2nd place finish. But that was nothing compared to the final. By lap 3 all 3 SAS drivers were trading places for 3rd place. Good fair driving meant all drivers stayed on the track and going into the last corner of the last lap Kyle dived down the inside of Josh, slowing them both down enough for Dan to sneak passed to finish 3rd, Kyle 4th and Josh 5th. Team manager Scott was really happy with the progress the drivers are making.

Hooton 11th October,

With Jake Anderson's dad working late they decided to miss Rowrah and travel the shot distance to Hooton, Jake finished a carrier best 4th in a strong field. - see Jake's driver page for full report.

Hooton 13th September

Kyle Hornby and Jake Anderson were the only drivers to represent SAS at Hooton. Both quickly found good pace, with Jake qualifying an excellent 2nd in his first outing with SAS. Kyle was 8th. At the start of the first heat Kyle was used as a brake into corner 1, Jake got caught up with a spinning kart when 4th with the leaders. So that sent both driver to the back of the grid, and just trying to make up as many places as possible.

Final, Jake Anderson finished 6th with Kyle Hornby 8th.

GYG 6th September 2009

Jake Walker wrapped up the 2009 DKC Championship with yet another GY win. Excellent achievement Jake. Cameron Roberts started 5th and came in an excellent 4th. James Biggs was 7th – his best DKC result.

Rowrah – Double Header 3th and 31st August 2009

Jake Walker came very close to recording his 10th succesive club meeting win with an unlucky 2nd place in Sunday’s final. Having started way back in 10th position due to carb trouble in the heats Jake did extrmely well to finish as high as he did. Kyle Hornby in only his second Rowrah meeting was in 4th position as he approached the final corner only to glance behind once to often and ended up losing control of his kart and leaving the track. Kyle finished 7th – still very good.

Part two of the weekend was better for both Jake and Kyle – Jake winning and Kyle doing very well in 4th.

Three Sisters 23rd August 2009

Fergus Greensmith recorded his first ever win in his last club meeting as a cadet – phew close one Gus!
After two years of driving and a couple of podiums the whole of the SAS team are delighted with Gus’ result. James Biggs recorded his best ever finish with 4th place and Cameron Roberts made up 5 places in the final to finish 7th. Darius Karberley was close behind in 8th.

Rowrah - 9th August 2009

Cameron Roberts and Kyle Hornby made their first visit to Rowrah and enjoyed the experience of this superb circuit.
While the majority of the country basked in baking sunshine it was a case of wets on for the first heat. It became apparent why there are so many lakes in this district!
Cameron spent most of the day’s heats in the top 5 and that’s exactly where he finished the final. Kyle came a very creditable 10th.

Rissington 2nd August 2009

Cam returned to the scene of his May triumph and once again ran track champion James DeHavilland very close. Cam and three other drivers stole away from the rest and fought their battle at the front culminating in an audacious attempt to get first place on the final corners – it may not have come off this time but it wont be long before it does. Cam finished 4th with only 2/10th of a sec between 1st and fourth places which included James and stars driver Ross Gunn.

Three Sisters July 26th 2009

Well they thought they would have another go at us!
What are we talking about? The attempt by southern infiltrators to steal away our northern trophies. At the May meeting top Forest Edge driver Jordan Gilbertson came to Three Sisters to check out the chilly north and almost took first place but was pipped by our local driver Jake Walker in the final lap.
Not perturbed by his defeat Jordan braved the polar ice caps to make the return journey. Along with Ben Hingley, Jake and Jordan were the quickest on Saturday with Cameron Roberts and Robbie Lightfoot also on the pace.
Sunday saw incessant rainfall putting Saturdays testing firmly in the bin. SAS were for once not qualifying at their best for the final with Jake P5 and Cameron down at P12.

By the end of the first lap Jake had made it up to first and Cameron 6th. Jordan was tight to Jake in 2nd. On instruction from SAS team boss Scott Walker Jake slipped behind Jordan into second. Cameron had now made it up to 4th but the gap to Robbie in 3rd was proved too far. As Jordan led the final lap over Jake it looked as if it was not be Jakes day…until the final corner at Lunar when Jake made his audacious move to keep the northern flag flying and send those southerners back to their chicken chasseur, while we tuck into a celebration pie and chips with mushy peas!

FKS Round 5 PFI - 18/19th July 2009

Hooton - 11/12th July 2009 - only Jack Leese races as the other drivers rest.

GYG - 4/5th July 2009

Jake wins the Dragon Master title for the second year running - amazing Jake well done, Darius drives to a great 3rd place and Cameron gets the 7th place trophy and recorded the second fastest lap.

Three Sisters - June 27/28th 2009

Cameron did well all weekend even won a heat and came 5th in the final and took home a trophy to his mum.

FKS Round 4 Rowrah June 27/28th

A really mixed weekend, strange track surface took the SAS team a while to get the karts set up, finals were mixed up due to rain.

Hooton Park - 14th June 2009

Jake Walker retained his Cheshire Oaks in a thrilling final battle with Ben Hingley. Starting on pole Jake waved Ben through on lap 7 and sat tight behind Ben to conserve his engine. Jake made his overtaking move in the final lap to win the Cheshire Oaks for the second year running. Darius Karbarley drove a great final moving up from 18th to finish 7th. Cam Roberts found nuetral this weekend and James Biggs found reverse to prove that motorsport can be unpredictable!

GYG – 7th June 2009

When the vehicle of the day should have been an Ark not a Kart, when the word slipstream took on a new meaning. And the descent in to the carousel resembled the water chute at Alton Towers rather than a kart track…. despite all this the SAS boys flourished.

Like a tornado devouring all before it the SAS Motorsport team continues to dominate the north west and Wales kart meetings.
Once again with Jake Walker at the helm and on this occasion with Darius Karbarley and Fergus Greensmith as his henchmen the three SAS drivers took 1st, 2nd and 4th places respectively at this months GYG meeting. Full credit to the three drivers and team boss Scott Walker who continues to take the team up another level.

Three Sisters – May 31st 2009

FIRST, FIRST, FIRST. A FIRST win at Three Sisters for Jake Walker. Jake’s FIRST lap record at Three Sisters and a FIRST podium finish at Three Sisters for Cameron Roberts topped another weekend of outstanding racing for the SAS team.

James Biggs was quick all weekend. Darius Karberley and Fergus Greensmith turned in some impressive heats and Cameron was third quickest in the heats just behind Jake and Ben Hingley.
Jake started P3 for the final and Cam P5. As they emerged from the first corner Jake was in second place and Cam in third. Jake and kart no19 opened up a gap on Cam and he in turn opened up a 3.5sec gap on James Biggs in fourth place.

Jake stole the race in the final lap (where have we read that before)? Cam drove exceptionally well and showed immense concentration and consistency for such a young driver to drive his own race throughout the 15 laps.
The fourth to ninth positions were a real battle eventually finishing with Fergus in 6th, James in 8th and Darius in 9th. Our novice driver Jack Leese was top novice in all the heats but was unlucky in the final.

FKS – GYG 16 May 2009

Just like one of those movies when the big players come to town and the local boy comes good and out (zip)guns them – so Jake Walker outshone the big names and became our local hero.

With all eyes on Jake siting on position eight for the final he got off to a comfortable start despite losing the odd place.

However it didn’t take long for Jake to get into his stride and start moving up the field.

>With a large contingent of family, friends and fellow karters willing on his every move Jake did not disappoint and was up to 5th by lap four. George Russell having started on pole had moved away from the pack very swiftly. Jake’s best hope was to keep out of trouble and stay on the track in very tricky wet conditions.

When Jake moved into 2nd place on lap twelve, it left six nail-biting laps to the end with a great deal of pressure coming from the karts behind – Jake held his nerve and his line to fend them off and finish an absolutely stunning second much to the delight of the locals. A podium at this level, in only his second FKS race is truly amazing and much credit should go to this small son and dad team who out manoeuvred the kind of teams that spend more in a weekend than the Walkers do in a season.

Darius Karbarley and Fergus Greensmith competed very well in a strong B-final. Gus climbed from 18th to 11th in only three laps before taking a spin off the track and Darius made it up from 20th to 9th only to suffer the same fate. The drivers should take heart from their ability to make such progress at this highly competitive level.

Hooton Park – 9th/10th May 2009
When Cameron Roberts came off on the FIRST corner of the FIRST Lap of the FIRST Heat, things didn’t bode well for the day. However through sheer determination Cameron gradually turned things around and when he won Heat Three his confidence had noticeably grown. Starting the final in 6th position Cameron had an excellent final - continually challenging the front runners and making his way up to third - before coming across the back-marker on the final corner and being denied a second podium in as many races and finishing an excellent 4th. James Biggs was quick all weekend and this was reflected in his 5th position on the grid. James finished a very creditable 6th. Jack Leese won his second novice trophy on the trot and finished the race in 10th and 2nd novice was Kyle Hornby who finished 12th overall so a successful weekends racing for the SAS team.

GYG - 2nd/3rd May 2009

Hat tricks. When we think of famous hat-tricks we remember Geoff Hurst’s in the 1966 world cup final or maybe Michael Owen’s in the 5-1 demolition against Germany or the Bjorn Borg wins at Wimbledon in the 70’s. Now we have another to add to the list – Jake Walker’s hat-trick of wins at GYG in March, April and May! Just when all looked lost in the qualifying session when Jake’s carb went down he rallied to achieve 3rd then 2nd in the Heats before starting the final on P4. As is Jake’s habit – he once again left it late to take the lead and bring home another deserved trophy. Fergus Greensmith recovered from his attempt at aerobatics last week to clock up a very respectable 8th in a very strong field and an excellent 5th in Heat 2.
Darius Karbarley had a mixed weekend (bit like his dad) but did well to finish 6th in one of the heats.
Rissington - 2nd/3rd May 2009 Cameron Roberts attended the meeting in the Cotswolds at Rissington. Despite having never driven the track before he stunned the local crowd with a 2nd place in the final, just missing out by 1/100th of a second to the current club champion. Cam also recorded the fastest lap in the final and one of the heats (more details on driver’s page).

Three Sisters – Wigan 25/26 April 2009

In a move more reminiscent of Bond than Button. Fergus Greensmith’s day was over before the three lap practice had even finished. When a kart spun in front of Gus on the way up the valley he attempted evasive action but still clipped the kart. The momentum took Gus into the air and landed upside down on the track –bad enough – but the kart behind was unable to take evasive action and ploughed into Gus when he was upside down. As cadet parents we all know that gut-wrenching feeling when we see incidents like these on the track. Fortunately Gus was not seriously injured and following a visit to A&E was allowed to go home that afternoon. An unfortunate day for Gus when Saturday indicated so much promise, as he and sparring partner Cameron Roberts were electric on test day.
Darius Karbarley really does love Three Sisters (the track) and finished a stunning second to follow up his recent third placing in the winter series.
James Biggs did very well and got his first Three Sisters top ten with a 9th place. Our two SAS novice entries Jack Leece and Kyle Hornby came 1st and 2nd novice respectively.

GYG Sat/Sun 4th/5th April 2009

Last month we described Jake Walker’s win at GYG as ‘the storming of the Welsh hillsides’. This month was not so much a ‘storming’ – more of a complete demolition!
Well, just when we thought it wasn’t possible to go one better than last months win (how do you go better than 1st)? By tearing up the form book with a victory against some of the UK’s top karter’s. Not since the 1282 conquest of Wales have the English transversed the Welsh borders with such aplomb.

Even during Saturday’s testing sessions eyebrows were raised at Jake’s form. Taking this into Sunday and a top 3 place in Qualifying and a 4th in a heat, Jake ended up 7th in the grid for the final. A messy start to the race for a number of the front drivers meant that Jake found himself in third place. A move up to 2nd on lap five and like last month Jake took the lead in the final lap (see picture on index page) to bring victory to the SAS team run by hard working dad Scott Walker.
The other team member racing at the circuit – Darius Karberley also had a great weekend competing well with the top boys getting a good qualifying time and starting a heat 5th. Darius eventually finished 11th – an excellent result confirming Darius’ ongoing progress this year.

Race Report – Three Sisters Wigan March 28th and 29th 2009

More spills than a toddler’s tea party.
More shunting than Crewe railway yard.
More slips than the M&S lingerie department.
This was certainly an eventful weekend, through which no team driver came out unscathed.

Saturday morning saw carburettor trouble on Jake and Cam’s karts – fortunately John Davies from Force was on hand to rebuild them and get them running perfectly. Various test sessions came and went with a number of incidents – the worst when James was shunted into the air landing with an almighty thump on to the track which culminated in a visit to the paramedics and some hefty bruising. Some of the sessions went very well and all the drivers had at least two or three excellent performances on the track. The last session on Saturday was the timed qualifying with Fergus turning in the best performance in the team. Jack achieved the best novice time.

Sunday continued where Saturday left off with a number of incidents. Jake won Heat 2 but was taken off the track when leading Heat 3 which cost Jake a decent place on the grid for the final. Unfortunately a similar incident early on in the final meant that Jake came in 9th. Darius had similar problems but finished a creditable 10th and currently stands 3rd in the Championship table. Fergus also had some good heats and drove very consistently but once again got taken out in the final and managed to finish 15th. Cameron was the second team driver of the weekend to visit the ambulance. In the first lap of Heat 2 a kart in front of him went up the back of Darius’ kart, leapt into the air and came crashing down on to the front of Cam’s kart injuring his foot. Apart from the physical pain it meant that Cam started Heat 3 at the back and despite making up 10 places he started 25th for the final and did well to end up 17th.
James was the only driver to avoid trouble on Sunday and drove consistently well all day and finished 14th. Jack did well to make up five places on his start position.
All credit to Cameron and James for getting back in their karts and performing so well following their trips to the medics.

Hooton Park Sunday 8th March 2009

Following the storming of the Welsh hillsides the previous week the SAS team set their sites on more local territory at Ellsmere Port. Dominating the battle for the top slots the team secured an impressive 50% of the top ten places including a double header for Jake (Sky) Walker when he recorded his second win in as many weeks. Fergus Greensmith continued where he left off at Hooton a month ago with another impressive third. Darius Karbarley made up three places to finish 6th, Cameron Roberts - 8th and James Biggs - 9th rounded off the SAS dominance, it should be noted that Cameron and James are both only recently off their novice plates. Congratulations go to SAS associate Tristran Perry for securing his first novice win.

GYG Sunday 1st March 2009

An outstanding weekend of karting culminating in SAS Motorsport's first win of the season when Jake Walker took the chequered flag in a thrilling final.
Determined not to suffer a repeat of last months final at the same circuit, when he narrowly missed out to Ben Hingley, Jake took the race by the scruff of the neck from the outset involving himself in a five kart race at the front of the field during which the lead constantly changed hands.
As the last lap beckoned Jake found himself in fifth position but some supreme driving on the last lap saw Jake to an impressive win.
Other SAS team members Darius Karbarley, Cameron Roberts and Fergus Greensmith and associate driver Freddie Lee all drove extremely creditably to finish just outside the top ten positions in a highly competitive field of twenty-five drivers many of whom will be taking part in this seasons STARS competition.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jake just missed out at GYG - Feb 2009

GYG FEB, Jake Walker and Darius Karbaley had very different days. Jake ran trouble free all weekend, winning a heat and just missing out by 0.03 in the final (see photo). Darius had a great day testing on Saturday to finish up 3rd fastest, then on Sunday it all went wrong, with mechanical problems. But on a positive note Darius drove well and when his kart did not let him down was very fast.

Jan's Cadet race 3 Sister's Valley Wigan. (Official Report) - January Meeting
20 drivers today in the cadet class, but in the heats Ben Hingley (valley lap record holder), Mark Wakefield and Nathon Aston really did stand out. They all took a heat win apiece, and between them locked out the top 3 positions in each heat. Ominously for the other two though, Wakefield had set the fastest lap in all three heats, and landed pole. Hingley lined up on grid 2, with Aston and Fergus Greensmith behind.
At the start Wakefield made sure of the lead from pole followed by Aston, Greensmith, Darius Karbaley and Robbie Lightfoot. Hingley had disappeared way down the field denying us of the expected showdown with Wakefield. Impressive novice Cameron Roberts, showing well in the top 10 in the heats unfortunately came off at the 1st corner, denying him of the chance of rattling a few cages in the final. Back at the front Wakefield was starting to make a break for it with Aston struggling to hold on to him. Behind these two a 7-way scrap was emerging for the final podium slot, Greensmith trying valiantly to hold on before a trip across the kerbs up the valley dropped him out of contention. By Lap 5 Hingley was back up to 7th setting fastest lap of the race in his eventual fight back to 3rd. Wakefield though was looking comfortable at the front when with two laps to go he started to slow dramatically with carb problems. Aston sensed his chance and wasted no time in reeling in the leader. Into the final corner Aston was right on Wakefield’s tail and on the run to the flag took the win by a mere 0. 081 seconds!!! Hingley, Lightfoot, Karbaley and Chad Little coming in next. Novice Cameron Roberts made a good comeback from his earlier spin to not only finish 11th, but take the top novice award.

Less than 1 week to start of the season, SAS drivers are ready to put the hard work to good use and show the rest of the field how it should be done, Fergus, Darius,James,Cameron and Max are ready for the vally track at 3 Sister's. And new team member Jack Leese will practice on Saturday in his new Zip Storm.

3 Cadet mechanics from SAS went on a 2 day Mychone race data course run by Paul Granger, All 3 had a fantastic weekend away and now understand the software and how to make the most of the data, again showing SAS are using the latest technology. Using what they learnt, they helped Jake Walker finish 2nd and 6th in his heats and qualified 4th for the A final out of 40+ top drivers that attended Kimbolton getting ready for the STARS meeting.

During the Christmas school holidays all SASMotorsport drivers did lots of testing at GYG, Hooton and Wigan, Darius and Jake did Kimbolton's Dec and Jan's race meeting to learn the track and getting very good data ready for there assault on the British Cadet Championship.

The whole team is looking forward to the new season and all should have a better year due to the testing that's taken place over the last 2 months.

During the test we came to the conclusion that Iztech kart seats are the seat of choice for both driver and team, Every driver that has tested the Iztech seat say it's not only the most comfortable seat they have tested but the seat gives maximum kart to driver feedback.

SAS also tested F1 fuels and were very happy with the performance of the MSA licensed fuel. With the fuels low flash point suiting the Comer engine, and the Mychone data showing it worked better than pump fuel.

22/23rd Nov Wigan.

The last race or the year was cold and wet, The new awning kept the team dry and the heater kept them warm, Every time the Cadets were called to the grid the heavens opened and soaked everyone. Well done to the whole team, who all finished despite the rotten weather that did its best to spoil the weekend. SAS team manager Scott says "He has never seen such bad spray, every driver did really well to stay on the track." See the drivers race report on there pages.

LOOK at the new drivers page, A big thanks to Digipicts4U.com

Well done Lewis, Cadet to F1 world champion. Are you next!!!!

Hooton Pk. Nov2009

This was the first time the new 2009 team members all raced together, The only missing driver was Max Fitton who is waiting for Father Christmas to deliver his new kart. It was very cold and wet so the new team awning went down well and every one made good use of the heater.

I had been checking the weather forecast all week and knew Sunday was going to be very wet. So Sat morning in wet conditions we set the karts up then played about with carb setting as the track dried knowing that the rain would be back Sunday.

Sunday morning practice was very slippery and woke most drivers up.

Heat 1, After 2 laps I was very confident I had chosen the right sprocket and tyre pressures, all drivers made good progress. There was a buzz and all drivers were on a high.

Heat 2, Heavy rain on formation lap caught out a lot of drivers and resulted in a 10 kart crash in turn 1 bringing out the Red Flag. This resulted in James Biggs' first outing with the team sitting in the track ambulance with a dislocated thumb. Happily he was fit enough to make the final after his mechanics repaired his badly damaged kart.

Final, With Jake on pole, and the other drivers all starting well up the field all Dad's waited for what should have been a cracking start to the new driver line up. And the drivers did not disappoint.

SASMotorsport would like to welcome novice cadet driver Cameron Roberts, who tested this weekend at Hooton Park and found a set-up that complimented his driving style. We are looking forward to running Cameron at 3 Sisters (Wigan) in 2 weeks time where we hope to make further improvements to both kart and driver. SASMotorsport's team manager (Scott Walker) saw lots of potential and was most impressed by the 9 year olds initiative to restart the kart on his own following a spin in wet conditions (saving his mechanic Max Roberts a long walk.) Well done Cameron, we look forward to seeing you at Wigan!
